Toddy Thursday: Poinsettia Cocktail

Okay, I know I threw a wrench in yesterday's post by not giving you any workout wisdom and it's about to happen again. I know...I'm so type A personality and predictable that you can't believe I'm changing it up again *gasp* but I am!

I had to fit this in somehow (I'm not so great at this scheduling thing yet) before Christmas because it's just that amazing. In fact, it's so amazing I only took one picture of it myself :)

I love a yummy holiday cocktail and this one is perfect. It's light and refreshing and screams holiday!

Ingredients

1/4 cup vodka
1/4 cup Champagne
1/2 cup cranberry juice
Crushed ice
2 strips orange zest, each about 1/4-inch wide and 2 inches long

Directions

Combine the vodka, Champagne and juice in a large-stemmed red wine glass. Add crushed ice and stir until the mixture is well chilled. Twist the orange strips over the glass, drop them in, and serve.

So bascially I made a huge pitcher of it by multiplying everything by 10. So my recipe looked like:

2.5 cups vodka

2.5 cups Champagne (I actually added more to this because there was room at the top and I love bubbles)

5 cups cranberry juice (I used a cranberry grape because that's what I had)

Crushed ice

Orange zest (I zested straight into the cup)

It's insanely easy, you can't taste the alcohol at all and it's really pretty! I might be drinking these pre and post Christmas :)

Non-Workout Wednesday :)

I interrupt this Workout Wednesday to bring your our Christmas card (Who needs to work out the week before Christmas anyway?!). I hope you don't mind that I don't have workout advice for you today, but the beautiful Christmas card that we sent to our sweet family and friends.

My brother (http://www.dylanwilsonweddings) is a fantastic photographer out of Savannah. He's amazing and captures such beauty in all of his images. I'm thankful to have a wonderful photographer in our family.

The lake at my parents' house was the perfect backdrop for our pictures. It was freezing and E was not happy wearing just his Christmas clothes. Thank goodness I had the last minute thought to bring our matching camel colored jackets. What I didn't expect that I'd love the pictures in our coats better than the pictures in our dress clothes.

Sunday Snapshot

Another busy weekend...I'm pretty sure all of the weekends around Christmas are insanely busy. We had a great weekend and have another Christmas party tonight (at our house). One of my favorite things about this time of year is that you get to see friends that you don't always get to see. There's so much joy during the Christmas season...seeing friends and family, the joy on kids faces and there's nothing better than the joy that comes from all of the amazing cooking. We've had lots of rainy days, which normally gets me down...but remembering the reason for the Christmas season helps lift my spirits.

So without further ado...my week in review!

Apparently I didn't take any pictures on Monday...not even sure where this week went! On Wednesday, E begged for a bike ride. After I somehow got the bike down without killing myself, I loaded him and Milly up (50+ lbs) and down the street we went...only to discover that we had a flat tire. Needless to say, we only made it half a mile and turned around. I pretty much thought I was going to die.

Thursday, my dear friend Whitney at Salon DM3 colored my hair. I've found that since going brunette, the color doesn't really last long in my hair (probably because my hair was sooo blonde before). Anyway, getting your hair colored is always a relaxing experience (at least in my opinion).

Friday, E and I played outside for awhile because it was finally not raining. I wore my Lilly Pulitzer murfee, Lilly Pulitzer sweater, favorite Gap jeans and Tory Burch revas.

 And E rolled around in the leaves...

I tried to make Friday extra fun for E because he had his first babysitter that night (I know, 2.5 years and he hasn't had one...it's a crime ;)) so we went to his favorite lunch spot for burritos.

Friday pm, we went to one of our best friends' Christmas parties. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed wearing my sparkly dress :)

They had a photo booth which was super fun...the hubs and I had to take a turn in there :)

Saturday, our Junior League hosted a Cookies with Santa event. It was a lot of fun to see all of the kids get excited (or terrified) of Santa. It was exhausting to make them smile...to say the least.

Let's just say that E was....not a big fan :)

Visiting Santa wore him out so he fell asleep on the couch (not dreaming about Santa).

This pic never made it to Instagram, but that's homemade Eggnog folks...it was fantastic, really...and my leather skirt was pretty fantastic too!

We had a great weekend...hope you did too! I'll be back tomorrow for Menu Mondays...it's sure to be something yummy (maybe dessert?!)

Sunday Snapshots

Another busy week in the books and some fun photos to share!

I forgot to include this one last week...my brother is an amazing photographer (www.dylanwilsonweddings.com) and snapped this great shot!

Nothing makes me happier during the Christmas season than sipping my coffee in the dark with the Christmas tree lights on.

Dunkin' Donuts coffee with pumpkin in it is A.MAZ.ING! Thankful for it on rough days!

We pulled out Farley (more on him on another post soon) to report back to Santa (he's kind of like Elf on the Shelf but he doesn't get in trouble and the book is more about the true reason of Christmas).

Our Junior League has a big, beautiful house that we get to decorate at Christmas!

Nothing says southern like cotton and pecans!

We made a quick trip to see my husband's grandmother in Florida this past weekend and on our way home, we stopped to see my brother and his wife in Savannah. It was such a fun, quick trip and E was thrilled to see his aunt and uncle (and their dog).

E loved the idea of sleeping on the sleeper sofa (his first time in a big bed)...he did great sleeping in it and then enjoyed waffles in bed!

16 hours in 3 days...we're a little crazy, but red tongues were entertaining for the last hour! Now this sweet pea is taking a nap and mommy and daddy are downing coffee!

Sunday Snapshots (a day late)

So I'm such a loser that I missed blogging yesterday. It's been a busy week and I just didn't get to it. So today, you get a Snapshot Sunday and a Menu Monday! So I'm so sorry, but hopefully this will make it up to you.

Monday night was one of our best friend's birthday, so we had a nice dinner with him and his wife (one of my absolute best friends). It was so nice to have a couple's dinner and laugh about silly things (okay mostly make fun of me).

Wednesday afternoon E showed off his imagination...I went downstairs for five seconds and came back up to this crown and necklace outfit and him running around saying 'Me Princess E." Needless to say, after I laughed for a long time, I taught him that boys are princes. 

Thursday was Thanksgiving and this was the best picture we got. We had a wonderful lunch at my grandparents with all of my aunts and uncles and cousins. It reminded me that I am beyond thankful for such a wonderful family :)

Friday morning we stayed in our jammies for awhile and baked muffins...E is the ultimate stirer (okay he makes a total mess, but he loves it).

My brother, an amazing photographer (www.dylanwilsonweddings.com) took our Christmas card pictures on Thursday morning. E wasn't quite cooperative, but we got some great shots. It was freezing cold, so that didn't help matters. Pictures to come!

It's a tradition for Jon and me to decorate my grandma's house for Christmas. It's a lot of work to decorate anybody's house for Christmas, but we really love helping her out and E adores her. They played the piano together while we decorated. I'm so thankful that E has THREE great-grandmothers still living and one great-grandfather.

My favorite thing about holidays is that I have the chance to see wonderful friends that I grew up with. Laura. Allie and I had a nice lunch and went shopping afterwards. It was just like old times.

Sunday we decided to cut down a tree (pictures to come) and stop by and see Santa at the tree farm. Needless to say, E wanted nothing to do with Santa (he did give him a high-five) but this is as close as he got.
